Privacy
The short version: your manuscript never leaves your browser, and there is nothing to collect.
What happens to your file
When you choose a .docx file, the browser reads it from your disk into this page’s memory using the standard File API. All cleaning happens right here in JavaScript — unpacking the archive, editing the document XML, re-zipping — inside this tab. When you close the tab, the file is gone from memory. There is no upload step, because there is no server to upload to: this is a static site with no backend.
What this site does not do
- No file is transmitted anywhere. Cleaning works the same with your network connection switched off after the page loads.
- No accounts, no sign-in, no email collection, no newsletter.
- No cookies, no localStorage, no fingerprinting, no session recording.
- No analytics — no Google Analytics, no Cloudflare Web Analytics, no third-party scripts of any kind.
- No ads and no tracking pixels. The full page is served from one origin (Cloudflare Pages) with no embedded content from other companies.
How to verify it yourself
- Open this site and press F12 (or right-click → Inspect) to open developer tools.
- Switch to the Network tab, then choose a .docx file and clean it.
- Watch the requests: you will see no request carrying your file — none is made during cleaning at all.
- You can also switch off Wi-Fi after the page loads and clean a manuscript offline. It works.
Hosting
The site itself is static and hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like virtually every web host, Cloudflare receives standard request metadata (IP address, user agent, requested URL) when your browser fetches a page — that is inherent to serving any website, and it is the reason the no-analytics list above matters: no extra data about you is collected on top of that baseline.
Is the tool free?
Yes. No payments, no accounts, no limits beyond the 25 MB file-size guidance for browser memory. If that ever changes, it will be clearly visible on this page before you use it.
